The British Swimming Association has recently announced the 20-member lineup for the 2024 World Swimming Championships. The team is led by Ben Proud and Adam Peaty, who are currently tied for the most appearances in world-class competitions among active British swimmers. Once the dust settles in Doha, each of them will have competed six times.

Another notable member of the 2024 World Championships lineup is Olympic finalist Max Litchfield. This 28-year-old athlete has rarely appeared in domestic competitions, instead training in South Africa and competing in Italy and Sweden.

Similarly, Adam Peaty, the 28-year-old world record holder, stood out during the 2023 FINA World Cup series. He withdrew from competitions during the British Championships and the 2023 Fukuoka World Championships due to mental health issues but made a strong comeback this year.

According to the British Swimming Association, the primary goal of the Doha World Championships is to secure relay spots for the British team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The composition of this British team is designed to maximize the chances of securing relay spots for the Olympics in July and ensuring these teams receive good rotation adjustments on the field.

Regarding the Doha World Championships, Chris Spice, Director of Performance for the British Swimming Team, combined the preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics and stated, “We all know that in an Olympic year, the World Championships can bring unusual challenges. Our swimmers and staff are preparing sufficiently for Doha, which is a key part of our preparation for the Paris Olympics. Before that, we have the British Swimming Championships in April waiting for us.”

“Securing all the Olympic relay spots is crucial, and in recent years, our relay teams have achieved commendable results, demonstrating the talent and depth of these athletes. However, most importantly, this is an excellent opportunity for our swimmers to experience world-class competition. It will be a tough test of our swimmers’ winter training conditions as they continue high-intensity training throughout the competition.”
